On April 3, 2008 I attended SHIDARA; Heart of the Immortal Mountain and Laxson Auditorium on CSU Chico’s campus. SHIDARA is a group of Japanese Taiko Drummers. The members live and do their training in their mountain facility with the strictest discipline in Japan . Shidara is committed to keeping the ancient dance festivals of their region alive. The event was an awesome and interesting experience. The drummers have high energy and the songs and dances they do are beautiful. Most of their music is supposed to represent the nature back home. They did eight songs; Murasamenone, Kazenomichi, Otodama, Niebuchi, Tonbi, Koganenokaze, Hono Kuni, and Hana Matsuri. All of the songs represent passion and emotions they are supposed to represent the culture and lifestyle from their home country Japan . My favorite song that they performed was one called “Murasamenone” it is the sounds of heavy rain in the forest. It was beautiful because it sounded just like a rainstorm. It reminded me of when I was little and would stay over at my grandmothers in the winter, and when it would rain really hard she had a roof that would make it sound that much louder. When they performed this song it instantly brought me back to this memory.
